Taylormade miscela

Shaft:TaylorMade Ladies flex graphite
Grip:TaylorMade proprietary

Looks:"Vive la difference"! Let's face it men and women
differ on a whole host of things and golf is no exception. For the purposes of this review, the help of a lady golfer was enlisted. She is a 15 handicapper in her late 40's (exact age was never going to be conceded!) who has played golf for 20 years and who once played off a very respectable 8 handicap so she knows her stuff. These clubs are a combo set.as the 5 and 6 irons are actually "rescue"irons, like the TaylorMade Firesole rescue clubs of the past or the new Rescue mid,but in looks are more low profile like the Adams i-wood or the much lover Cobra baffler. The 7-sw are deep cavity backs with what seems like a small weight pad low in the cavity. The clubs are finished to a high standard, with the rescue clubs in a greyish colour and the irons in nice chrome. The clubs have a significant amount of offset, particulary in the irons. This always helps to get the ball in the air and reduce a slice. The clubs feel very light,as you would expect for a lightweight graphite shafted set and the grips feel soft to the touch.Overall a quality set that would get your attention on the shop shelf.

Performance:The clubs do very much what they should,ie.get the ball into the air quickly. Most lady golfers struggle to achieve any great distance with longer irons in particular as topping the ball seems to be the most common error. The 5 and 6 rescue clubs, with their combination of low weighting and lightweight shaft make picking the ball clean off a variety of lies quite easy.Ball flight for all clubs is nice and high, which will suit the vast majority of lady golfers and distance achieved is quite good.Low handicap ladies will not touch these clubs ,however,as theywill cite them as looking unwieldy and too lightweight to encourage purer striking and you are not going to see any of these in play on ladies tours. The vast majority of lady club golfers would benefit from using clubs of this nature though.

Value:$599 for this set and $999 driver,3 wood and 4 mid-wood is quite an outlay for a lady golfer. There is no doubting that the clubs and the concept behind them are solid, but it is hard to see many ladies parting with this much cash, particulary for a first set.Versus Ping,Callaway and Wilson ladies clubs they represent good value thoughand TaylorMade devotees will no doubt want the badge.

Verdict:These clubs do exactly what it says on the tin. They lift the ball into the air with ease and inspire confidence.Low handicap ladies will go for something like second hand Callaway X-14's,but high handicap ladies and dare it be said those of "advancing tears" would be well advised to give these a try as they will benefit their golf in no small way.
